The museum is located in the former convent of the Poor Claires of Venafro, which was founded i 1626 thanks to a bequeath by a local nobleman.
The rooms are lovely and the recent restoration of the building and adjacent church has revealed the beautiful decoration and many splendid particulars.
The museum is part of the national network and exhibits numerous valuable archaeological pieces from excavations and lucky finds.
Among the museum’s best pieces: a statue of Venus called Venafro by an anonymous artist during the Antonina age (2nd cent. B.C.); the ‘Tavola Acquaria’ from the age of Augustus (a tablet ascribing regulations regarding water); and numerous other pieces such as vases, donated works of art, funerary inscriptions and objects from near the Roman amphitheatre.
