In September in Certaldo there is a suggestive parade in Medieval costume with representations of Boccaccio’s stories along the streets and in the squares of the Certaldo Alto and Certaldo Basso, the upper and lower portions of the town.
The splendid town where the poet spent much of his life preserves its original Medieval structure, as can be seen in the colour of the brick buildings. Certaldo was the seat of one of the vicarages into which the Florentine State was divided and the old part of the town still maintains its fortifications, making it attractive to international visitors. The most important buildings are along the most important street, named, of course, Via Boccaccio. The Castle and the Palazzo Pretorio (Magisterial Palace) are of particular note.
