Widely known as a region where hunters come together for wild boar hunts, Maremma (despite the problems the countryside suffers due to the proliferation of this animal), is the location of an important festival that celebrates its wild king. The wild boar festival takes place at Suvereto and it has been celebrated there since 1968 when, in a highly improvisational form, a group of volunteers organised festivities. Dishes based on wild boar have centre-stage but also other typical products of the area can be had, making this festival popular with those who enjoy good food.
It is also an occasion to admire the suggestive medieval town where this festival is held, with its rich artistic and historic patrimony.
