They used to call him the “hero of two worlds”, and he is perhaps the most famous Italian among Italians. Garibaldi was born in Nice on July 4, 1807, and lived for a long time on this small but beautiful island in the archipelago of Maddalena, which recently became a part of the National Park.
By foot, with very little effort and with great reward, you can go through the most important places that were directly and indirectly connected with the memories of General Garibaldi and his land: the house where he lived in from 1856 to his death in 1882, the column of Garibaldi constructed for his centenary, the Town Hall, the carved busts of Anita and “Maggior Leggero” and Garibaldi’s tomb shaded by the pine tree.
To visit the Garibaldi Museum you have to cross the isthmus that connects the island to Maddalena.
