The “golene” are characteristic environments of the Po delta, and have a fundamental function in the river’s ecosystem. In fact, the “golene” are made up of small islands, mostly humid areas that absorb in a particular way all organic material that the water carries and cut down the water pollution.
In the “golene”, numerous species of birds live, including the beautiful swamp hawk and the red heron.
